Professional Information

Enjoy your early labor knowing that your Doula is just a phone call away. Ready to assist when you need her, I will be available by phone for emotional and informational support, joining you for in person support at your request.

Working seamlessly alongside your partner, your Doula is a presence of strength and peace so your partner can participate at the level to which he or she is comfortable. Helping reduce the pressure to know everything, your Doula enhances your partner’s ability to effectively support you.

Knowing that labor and birth can be unpredictable in length and intensity, the combination of support from your partner and your Doula is unbeatable.

During labor

As your Doula I am prepared to assist you with position changes, breathing techniques, knowing when and how to touch…all designed to decrease the discomfort of labor and increase your satisfaction and comfort.

Your partner can thrive with your Doula’s guidance in these physical support dynamics and you both benefit from he or she finding success when looking for ways to offer you comfort.

Nursing and care provider shifts change, but your Doula support does not! Enjoy continuous care from your Doula throughout your labor and birth.

I can stay with you for up to two hours after the birth of your baby if you like. If you have an elective or emergency C-Section, I will be available to support you through the birth and for at least 2-3 hours after the baby is born. During this time I will be focused on you, typically assisting with infant feeding if desired, supporting you while you bond as a family and other logistical support needs so that you can enjoy the newest member of your family.

As Your Doula I celebrate your success and strength!

Baby’s first feeding Support

There are many myths involved with breastfeeding, and as your Doula I can help to debunk some of those myths. One of the number one reasons why women do not continue to breastfeed is a rough start. Since nurses are very busy, most mothers need someone by their side after birth to help make sure their breastfeeding relationship is off to the perfect start. I will be there for you to support you and help you if needed with your baby's first feeding.

Postpartum follow-up visit

After baby is born and you have gotten settled in your home. We can then schedule a 30-45 min visit within the first 6 weeks after birth. We will meet at your home to help you review and clarify how things went at your birth, answer any questions, and offer resources to support your conscious, healthy and empowered transition into parenting. In this visit I will be able to answer an non-medical questions and we can just catch up.

Doula Partnership

As part of my doula team I have Shanita Fort as my backup doula for so that for any reason I am not able to attend your birth or is your labor exceeds over 24 hours and we need to take shifts so that you always have a rested doula by your side to make sure your delivery goes smoothly and you have constant support.  You’ll have a meeting with each of us leading up to your birth, so you feel very comfortable with both of us.

Community Referrals

Through our experience working in the Augusta Area birth community, I have many resources and will gain more overtime to help connect you with your dream team of holistic maternity care providers such as midwives, OB’s, chiropractors, acupuncturists, bodyworkers, pediatricians, and all other types of practitioners. Ask me for us referrals and view community resources on the client portal!

Resources

Borrow from my continuously growing Lending Library, which includes books on health & wellness, yoga, birth preparation, comfort measures, breastfeeding, and postpartum care. Full of great tips and things to consider as you prepare for birth and beyond.

Client Portal

Once hired, you will get access to the Client Portal, an online site where you will find your Intake Forms, the Birth Preferences Checklist. The thoughtful answers you provide on the Intake Forms will shed light on your goals and allow us to meet with you for our first prenatal meeting having already considered any follow-up questions or recommendations that might benefit you.

As a Doula, I  Do Not:

Perform any clinical tasks

Doulas specialize in nonmedical skills and do not perform clinical tasks, diagnose medical conditions, offer second opinions, or give medical advice. My goal as your doula is to help you have a safe and satisfying childbirth as you define it. When a doula is present, some women feel less need for pain medications or may postpone them until later in labor. It is not my role to discourage the you from your choices. My role is to help you become informed about various options, including the risks, benefits, and accompanying precautions or interventions for safety. Doulas can help maximize the benefits of pain medications while minimizing their undesirable side effects.

Make decisions for you

I invest in your sense of safety and make sure you have access to the resources you need to make the decisions right for you and your family. I do this by focusing on education in evidence-based care so that you can make informed decisions about your practitioners, birth setting, interventions, and attendees.

Speak to the staff on your behalf

During our prenatal visits our discussions will include birthing preferences, fears and strategies for the big day. This is a great time for mom and her partner to define your voice. You can determine your top priorities and figure out how you can best communicate this information to your providers.  This is a great time to identify questions and topics that should really be discussed prior to labor. As a your Doula there may be times when I can remind you about your preferences we previously discussed or about a question that you wanted to ask, but it is not my role to speak for you. My goal is to help empower you so that you are comfortable with your voice asking questions and making informed empowered decisions.

Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience

Every mom-to-be has her own set of hopes and expectations for her birth, and every birth is unique and the experience of it is deeply personal. I offer non-judgmental care and mentoring in preparation for this journey, so couples greet labor with knowledge, connection, and trust.I want your theories and priorities to guide me and determine how I can best serve YOU. Your goals become my goals and will never be the other way around. I bring no belief system about labor, birthing or parenting into our doula/client relationship. I specialize in supporting you, as you find your own birthing and parenting philosophies.
